I forgot my PIN. How do I get back in?
You cannot, and neither can we. There is no reset code and no recovery option — by design. A way for you to bypass the PIN would be a way for anyone holding your phone to bypass it too.
If you have an exported backup and remember its passphrase, you can reinstall the app, set a new PIN, and restore from that file. Without a backup, the vault contents cannot be recovered.
Will I lose everything if I uninstall?
Yes. The app keeps no copy anywhere else, so uninstalling, clearing app data or resetting the phone permanently deletes your vault. Always export a backup before changing phones or reinstalling.
How do I move my vault to a new phone?
Two ways:
- Backup file (free) — Settings → Export backup, choose a passphrase, save the file somewhere safe, then restore it on the new phone.
- Phone-to-phone transfer (Pro) — Settings → Export → Send to another phone. Both handsets must be on the same Wi-Fi or hotspot. Scan the code on the new phone and the vault moves across directly.
I forgot my backup passphrase
That backup cannot be opened. It is encrypted with a key derived from the passphrase, so there is nothing to recover without it — not by us, not by anyone.
Why does the app ask for camera access?
For scanning documents, and for the optional break-in photo that captures whoever is holding your phone after three wrong PIN attempts. Both save only into your vault. The feature is off until you turn it on.
Why does the screen go dark when I switch apps?
That is intentional. The app covers its own contents as it leaves the foreground, so your documents do not appear in the app switcher. Screenshots are blocked for the same reason.
How do folders work?
Folders are part of Pro. Tap the + button in Documents or Passwords and choose Create folder. Give it a name — "NIC", "College", whatever suits — then tap the folder to open it. Anything you add while you are inside it goes into that folder automatically.
Folders are one level deep on purpose: a folder cannot contain another folder, so there is never a tree to get lost in.
Deleting a folder only removes the folder — everything inside it moves back out, and nothing is deleted. If you do want the contents to go as well, tick Also delete the items inside in the confirmation, and the button turns red to say so. That cannot be undone.
If a Pro subscription lapses, folders you already made stay exactly where they are and you can still open them and everything inside. Only making a new folder asks for Pro.
Can one document have more than one page?
Yes. When you scan with the camera, the scanner offers to add another page — so the front and back of a CNIC, or every page of a contract, stay together as a single document. Open it and swipe to move between pages.
Will the app remind me before my passport expires?
With Hasp Pro, yes. Open a document, set its expiry date, and you will be reminded 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before it lapses. The reminder is scheduled on your phone — nothing about the document is sent anywhere.
Are there adverts?
No. There are no adverts anywhere in Hasp Vault — none beside your documents, none on the lock screen, and no advertising SDK in the app at all. The free version also has no limit on how much you can store.

Please never send us your PIN, your backup passphrase, or a copy of your backup file. We will never ask for them, and we cannot use them to help you.
